BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA / Marking Srebrenica massacre 15 years later

Tens of thousands gathered Sunday in the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica to bury hundreds of massacre victims on the 15th anniversary of the worst crime in Europe since the Nazi era. A hillside was dug out with graves waiting for 775 coffins. That number was less than a tenth of the Muslim men and boys slain by Serb forces who overran the UN-controlled town on July 11, 1995, during the Bosnian war.

JAPAN / Ruling party defeated in parliamentary election

Japanese voters handed a stinging electoral defeat to the ruling party Sunday, exit polls showed, rejecting a proposal to increase taxes that were aimed at preventing the world's second-largest economy from financial meltdown. Japanese media on Monday estimated the progressive Democratic Party of Japan - Prime Minister Naoto Kan's party - had lost its slim majority in the upper house.
