An early-morning wrong-way crash closed down the eastbound Long Island Expressway in North Hills Tuesday and sent two people to local hospitals for treatment, police said.

The crash comes just one day after a New York City police officer headed home from work was killed by what police said was a wrong-way drunk-driver on the Northern State Parkway. It is not clear if the crash Tuesday morning on the LIE involves alcohol.

The New York State Department of Transportation web site said two vehicles were involved. Nassau County police said that crash occurred at 5:03 a.m. between Shelter Rock Road, Exit 35, and Searingtown Road, Exit 36, on the eastbound LIE. The eastbound roadway is closed at Exit 34, the exit for New Hyde Park Road.

The road was closed for investigation and it was not immediately clear when the road would be re-opened.
