WTC beam will move to Islip Art Museum

The Town of Islip plans to move the World Trade Center steel beam from Town Hall to a permanent location in the Islip Art Museum at Brookwood Hall starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The beam is to be escorted by the Islip Fire Department along Montauk Highway, followed by a ceremony at the new home, where it will be blessed by a priest. Supervisor Tom Croci and several other town officials are expected.

The Port Authority gave steel beams from the 9/11 Ground Zero site to public agencies, military bases, schools and nonprofit organizations around the nation. The town received one last fall.

Several towns, schools and fire districts on Long Island have received remnants of steel from the World Trade Center, including the Bay Shore School District, St. James Fire Department, North Bellmore Fire Department, St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington and the Village of Rockville Centre.
