A Wyandanch High School 10th grade student is trying to raise funds to attend a prestigious summer program in Cambridge, England, this summer.

Ashif Hassan, 15, is the first Wyandanch student slated to attend the Cambridge College Programme, a rigorous academic program that incorporates in-depth course study through lectures and excursions that will expose scholars to both cultural and historic venues. The total cost, school officials said, is $6,200, but that does not include travel expenses.

Hassan, who has said he wants to attend Harvard to be a neurosurgeon, earned a $500 scholarship for the program. The deadline to raise the funds for the trip is the end of the month.
