Xu's layup wins it for Great Neck South

Daisy Xu hit the go-ahead layup with six seconds left as Great Neck South (3-10) defeated Westbury, 39-36, Wednesday in Nassau Conference AA-III girls basketball. Xu finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Betsy Tannenbaum had four steals to lead a defense that limited Westbury to 16 points in the second half.

Mepham 49, Bellmore JFK 24: Nicole Castaldo had 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for Mepham (10-2), which tied Herricks for first in Conference AA-III.

Bethpage 67, Sewanhaka 62: Jackie Zizzo was fouled as she hit a layup and converted the ensuing free throw to put Bethpage (7-2) up 66-62 with 25 seconds left as it upset previously undefeated Sewanhaka (8-1) in Conference A-II. Danielle Brusca scored 22 points and added four assists. Sewanhaka's Celine Jolicoeur had 32 points.BOYS BASKETBALLSolomon Schechter 56, Lake Grove 55: Eighth-grader Cole Eiber had three three-pointers in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead three with 48 seconds left that put Schechter (8-6) ahead 56-53 in IPPSAL.

Roosevelt 75, Mineola 48: Senior Shaquille Hanson had a career-high 20 rebounds to go with 20 points and four assists for Roosevelt (10-0) in Conference A-IV. Shaquille Ware added 11 rebounds and six points. Terrance Greer had seven points, six rebounds and four assists for Roosevelt.rifleryValley Stream titlist again. Danielle Cuomo shot a 282 to win the individual .22 small bore championship and lead Valley Stream to its eighth straight team championship Tuesday. Valley Stream took first with 1,119 points. Massapequa came in second with 1,065.

BOYS TRACKNilsen sets vault recordt. Smithtown West's Karl Nilsen won the pole vault with a school-record 13-3, according to coach Peter Schieck, at the Suffolk individual championships at Shoreham-Wading River.
