The Yankees will stand alongside their rivals, the Boston Red Sox, to honor Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims and the Newtown, Conn., community before their season opener on April 1.

The game at Yankee Stadium will be dedicated to victims of the December shooting and their families. A pregame ceremony will feature a center-field video board listing victims' names during a moment of silence.

Uniforms will be adored with a ribbon to remember the victims. The ribbon will also be painted prominently on the field before both dugouts.

On July 7, about 3,000 members of the Newtown community will be invited to Yankee Stadium to watch the game against the Baltimore Orioles.

"We hope that bringing the families of Newtown together at Yankee Stadium later in the summer will give the community an opportunity to create new memories and aid in the difficult process of moving forward," said Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees' managing general partner.
