Yom Kippur begins Friday night
Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, begins Friday and ends Saturday evening. Jews often spend the Day of Atonement fasting and praying.
Many Jewish businesses, organizations and schools may be closed during the holiday, and streets around synagogues may be busy.
Friday afternoon, the LIRR will operate eight extra eastbound trains from Penn Station for customers leaving work early.

2:08 p.m. train to Jamaica, Mineola, local to Huntington
2:29 p.m. train to Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, local to Huntington
3:24 p.m. train to Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville
Babylon Branch
2:32 p.m. express train to Lynbrook, local to Babylon
3 p.m. train to Jamaica, Rockville Centre, local to Babylon
3:31 p.m. express train to Rockville Centre, local to Babylon
Port Washington Branch
3:40 p.m. train to Woodside, Flushing Main Street, local to Great Neck
Far Rockaway Branch
3:48 p.m. express train to Locust Manor, local to Far Rockaway
