You can get Greinke at discount right now
There is no better time to deal for Zack Greinke than now. The Brewers' righthander lasted just two innings against the Yankees in his last start and didn't record a strikeout, while allowing five hits, seven runs, and three walks.
Two starts earlier, he allowed six earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. With a 5.63 ERA, some owners might be ready to sell at a discount. In 62 1/3 innings, Greinke has a superb 80/12 K/BB ratio. There's some bad luck with a .349 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), a high 25-percent line-drive rate, low 55-percent strand rate, and eight home runs for a pitcher who typically doesn't allow many homers. Greinke has pitched much better than the surface numbers show and a 2.71 fielding independent pitching (FIP) ERA is more proof.
Antonio Bastardo (Phillies, RP): His role as closer may be short-lived, depending on the return of Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge, but Bastardo should still be owned. He has converted his first two saves since taking over and all four this season. He has a 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a 34/13 K/BB ratio in 30 innings.
Eric Thames (Blue Jays, OF): He returned from the minors June 24 and has been hot. The move of Jose Bautista to third base opens up playing time in the outfield and Thames will hit second often in front of Bautista. He is 9-for-26 with two home runs, three RBIs and seven runs since the recall.
Jeremy Hellickson (Rays, SP): He's a very good pitcher, but now is a good time to sell in redraft leagues. He's struggling lately and has a 6.17 K/9, 3.55 BB/9, and a low .229 BABIP. The 3.18 ERA will rise.
Jayson Werth (Nationals, OF): He's been a disappointment and that may land him at a discount -- his negative perception can be taken advantage of. Despite a .223 average, Werth has 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases. He has a .262 BABIP, well below his .325 mark.
Joe Nathan (Twins, SP): Matt Capps is pitching well enough to keep the closer's role. Nathan struck out two in a scoreless inning and was clocked as high as 93 mph. If you need saves and have room to stash Nathan, he could get the ninth-inning job back at some point.
Derrek Lee (Orioles, 1B): He's 35, spent time on the disabled list, and many act like he's done. He's not. In his last 12 games, Lee is 18-for-51 with two home runs, six RBIs and eight runs.
Edwin Encarnacion (Blue Jays, 3B): A major disappointment so far, but the power has always been there. He hit 21 home runs in 332 at-bats last season and has nine hits in his last 28 at-bats with three home runs.
