The Town of North Hempstead is calling on its younger residents to design a public service announcement aimed at curbing the use of plastic bags.
The video contest — students participating in the town’s recycling partnership program are eligible — is in advance of Earth Day in April and is being billed as “Plastic Ain’t My Bag.”
The contest comes after a run of environmentally themed programs the town has hosted in the last year, including a much-hyped “Trashion Show” in January, which saw young students sauntering down the catwalk clad in recycled materials, such as lampshades and Capri Sun packages.
To enter, contestants can send their videos, which must be in Windows Media Player DVD format, to the town by March 22. Forms are available on the town’s website, northhempsteadny.gov.
The winner, which will be picked by the town’s Ecological Commission, will air on the town’s television channel and on YouTube.
