Giancarlo Stanton is on the Yankees' roster for Wild Card Series
While Aaron Judge won’t be playing in the AL Wild Card Series against the Red Sox, Giancarlo Stanton is surprisingly available.
The Yankees decided that Stanton, who has not played since April 24 because of multiple calf issues, was worth a roster spot when it was officially revealed on Tuesday morning.
Stanton has shown positive signs as of late, recently running the bases and facing live pitching. His righthanded-hitting presence could be huge in the series with Boston’s lefty-heavy pitching.
The question now remains how much Stanton can contribute. He would be an intriguing pinch-hitting option for Aaron Boone in the late innings. Plus, Stanton’s mere presence at the plate instills fear in opposing pitchers.
Stanton has hit just three home runs on 24 games this season, but he has 18 career postseason home runs in 48 games for the Yankees.
