Zafonte's walk-off homer wins it for Garden City
Gabrielle Zafonte hit a walk-off two-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning to give Garden City a 7-6 win over Manhasset Saturday in Nassau Conference ABC-III softball. Joanna Matuza hit a two-out, two-run single in the same inning to bring Garden City (4-8) within 6-5. Wheatley 14, Roslyn 3: Jenny Keller went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs to lead Wheatley (5-7) in Conference ABC-III. Rebecca Braito was 4-for-5 with two triples, two runs and an RBI. Holly Albro had nine strikeouts in the win.
Jericho 6, Valley Stream Central 5: Rachel Goldstein hit a two-run single to score Frankki Romano and Lindsay Divack in the top of the ninth to give Jericho (6-8) a 6-4 lead in Conference ABC-IV. East Rockaway 10, Cold Spring Harbor 1: Gianna Cilluffo went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs and Kim Pacheco was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for East Rockaway (11-3) in Conference ABC-V. Katie Seifert allowed six hits with two strikeouts for East Rockaway.
Mepham 5, Long Beach 2: Victoria Gunnels hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to give Mepham (5-8) a 3-2 lead in Conference AA-I. Claudia Law went 2-for-3 in the win.
Freeport 12, Port Washington 11: Maxiel Merced hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to give Freeport a 12-10 lead in Conference AA-IV. Mariela Plafencia went 3-for-5 with three runs and Angelica Milan went 2-for-4 for Freeport (6-9). .
Floral Park 12, Carle Place 0: Samantha Giovanniello threw a one-hitter, walked one walk and struck out 10 for Floral Park (12-2) in Conference ABC-I. Lindsay Trafon went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Allison Bostrom was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Lindsay Epstein was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Island Trees 7, Oyster Bay 0: Sam Basile went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Alannah Basile went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Island Trees (6-6) in Conference ABC-II.Wantagh 3, Glen Cove 0: Katie Marsman hit a two-run home run to cap a three-run first inning for Wantagh (10-2) in Conference ABC-III. Jaclyn Vincente threw a four-hitter, walked two and struck out 13. Glen Cove is 12-2.
Locust Valley 3, Hewlett 1: Megan Collins went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Locust Valley (4-4) in Conference ABC-IV. Collins' single drove in Nicole Rozzo to give Locust Valley a 2-1 lead in the third. Lynbrook 11, Lawrence 2: Rebecca Tisdell threw a two-hitter, walked four and struck out 11 and Christina Malcangi, Kim Hesler and Kasey Keller each had two RBIs for Lynbrook (14-0) in Conference ABC-V.
Commack 10, Sachem North 1: Nicole Hagenah went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer to lead Commack (13-1) in a League I/II crossover. Paige Swantek was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run and Michelle Andrews went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. She allowed three hits, an unearned run and struck out seven to get the win.Whitman 8, Floyd 2: Lauren Alexander was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs to lead Whitman (9-3) in League II. Christine Lucido went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and allowed three hits and struck out nine to get the win.Sayville 17, Comsewogue 0: Kathleen Maehr went 3-for-4 with two runs, Kira Karl doubled and scored three runs and Madelyn Vetrano went 2-for-4 with three runs for Sayville (7-6) in a League V/VI crossover. Babylon 11, Mattituck 1: Amanda McKay threw a three-hitter, walked none and struck out 11 for Babylon (11-1) in a League VII/VIII crossover.
Glenn 6, Ross 1: Lindsay Moorehead went 1-for-2 with a walk, four stolen bases and two runs to lead Glenn (6-6) in a League VII/VIII crossover. Sam Capobianco was 2-for-4 with a homer. Emma Beutel had 12 strikeouts for Ross.
Pierson-Bridgehampton 12, Southampton 1: Kaci Koehne went 2-for-5 with three runs to lead Pierson-Bridgehampton (9-3) in a League VII/VIII crossover. Natalie Abbene went 3-for-5 with two runs and Kasey Gildbride was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Melanie Stafford pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts to get the win.Mattituck 6, Ross 5: Lily McCullough and Ashley Finger each went 2-for-4. Sara Perkins had six strikeouts and no walks for Mattituck (2-9) in League VIII.
