Get published in Newsday
Newsday is seeking submissions for its Expressway reader essay that appears each Sunday in the Opinion pages and/or on newsday.com/opinion.
The essay is a nonfiction personal story about life on Long Island, often quirky and usually in the first person.
Past essays have been about a baseball fan’s long-delayed apology to a Hall of Famer, a mom’s decision to let her son get an earring, a man’s relationship with a wild turkey in his backyard, and readers’ memories of various holidays.
If you have a good story about Long Island to tell in about 540 words, send a summary paragraph to expressway@newsday.com and editor Larry Striegel will let you know if it sounds promising.
Newsday doesn’t pay for reader essays, but this is a chance to be published in a major newspaper.
