What has happened to our moral compass and civility? What are we teaching our children? When did it become proper to steal instead of purchase, and why are people so nasty to one another?

I work for a large department store, and the amount of theft is outrageous. People also feel it is OK to try on clothing in the fitting room, dump it on the floor in a heap and expect salespeople to pick it all up. We are not their mother.

People are rude when we try to help them. Returning clothes, obviously worn, they take tags off and have no proof of purchase and curse at us when they are told we can’t accept their return.

In line, customers have gotten into altercations with other customers for ridiculous reasons.

Working in retail has become totally uncivil. Something must change. We must recover our moral compass. It starts in the home, and elected officials are role models, too.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
