Here we go again ["Planting a new idea," News, July 4]. What is it about the decommissioned Shoreham nuclear power plant site that activates the stupid gene in Long Island's energy planners?

The Long Island Power Authority proposes another dimwitted idea to build a 398-megawatt gas- and oil-fired plant next to the rotting Shoreham nuke. LIPA's outdated energy plans will continue to shackle us to fossil fuels.

This new plant should be named LIPA's Folly. Originally, a folly was a fake castle that a king would build to create a better view from his window. Enough! We must create a vision that includes 100 percent renewable energy.
