I, too, cringe when I hear a store clerk say, "Everything we have is out" or "If we did, it would be over there" ["The idiocy of neglecting the customer," Expressway, Feb. 18].

When shopping, I hope you bring your concerns to the attention of the manager on duty or at least take the customer service survey, when available, to address problems.

Sometimes we all put on blinders and ignore some of the problems as a defense mechanism in our daily lives, but that does not excuse problems with customer service. We can only learn from our mistakes if we are made aware that mistakes are being made.

I also hope that you celebrate great customer service when you receive it. Nothing motivates others to try harder than to hear a co-worker praised for going the extra mile.
