I want to thank Newsday for "Religious freedom and compromise" [Opinion, April 7].

This column by Cathy Young fairly looked at the anti-discrimination situation that surrounds the religious freedom bills passed in Indiana and Arkansas. One of biggest misconceptions is that only the rights of gay people are being infringed upon.

The truth is that both sides are entitled to rights. The right to religious freedom is a protection under the Constitution that has become overshadowed. We, as a nation, must find the middle ground.
