You have extensively covered teachers being rated based on student test scores [“Don’t hide evaluations,” Editorial, June 18\]. The public has to consider the fact that many teachers are so fed up with being judged by student test scores they may leave the field.

When the economy recovers, and it will, young men and women who are extremely intelligent will not go into teaching. Why should they become teachers when they can be lawyers, doctors, business executives, etc., where they do not have the scrutiny of the public?

Politicians who favor judging teachers by students’ performance should consider these things.
