Letter: The American way is to evolve

I disagree with the statement by a letter writer that "we have lost our American way of life" ["The meaning of the election," Nov. 9].

We most certainly have not lost it. The United States is a vibrant and living nation, and it is just evolving and changing as it always has. I'm sure similar comments were made when slavery was abolished and women gained the vote.

One may or may not agree with policies, but the American way of life has always been fluid. As long as there are U.S. citizens taking an active role and interest in our government and communities, we will always have an American way of life.
