Letter: Unconvinced that Ted Cruz is eligible
This is in answer to the letter “Ted Cruz is eligible for White House” [March 6].
I found the writer’s reference to the Federalist Papers, rather than U.S. Constitution, a deflection at best, hypocrisy at worst.
In my opinion, the U.S. Supreme Court should take a look at defining “natural born citizen.” But until that happens — and it won’t happen before Nov. 7 — Cruz doesn’t qualify as a presidential contender.
It’s especially disturbing that Cruz relies on his mother’s “undisputed” U.S. citizenship. If you recall, his fellow Republicans put our sitting president’s birth under a microscope. One thing those “birthers” conveniently overlooked is the fact that Barack Obama’s mother also had undisputed U.S. citizenship.
If Cruz is nominated, I will support all efforts to keep him out of the White House because he is not yet considered a natural born citizen.
