"A plotter apologizes" [News, Aug. 8] is about Quazi Mohammed Nafis' letter to his sentencing judge following his conviction for planning to detonate a truck bomb at the Federal Reserve. In his letter, he repeatedly professes his love for America and praises Americans for their kindness. He blamed radical students in Bangladesh for his intended terrorist attack.

One must wonder what motivated this young man, who came to the United States on a student visa, to so drastically reverse his feelings for America and its people, apparently from extreme hatred to extreme love. Perhaps necessity is the mother of love.

If he truly loves America, he should be willing to accept his 30-year sentence, for the sake of illustrating to future would-be terrorists what can happen when they engage in terrorist activities.
