The editorial board thinks that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s entry into the New York City comptroller’s race almost passes for humility for this man. And we believe that he deserves another chance at public office, in spite of his disgraced status. Spitzer is a determined financial watchdog and, if elected, would manage the $127.5 billion New York City Retirement Systems, audit mayoral programs and rule on various municipal financial transactions.

We’re also looking at a lawsuit by Nassau's largest public-sector labor union, CSEA, which claims the police department failed to train 911 operators in advanced emergency procedures, even though the NCPD received $3.4 million in state grant money for the training between 2008 and 2012.

And the board thinks the law needs to catch up with cybercriminals. As a society, we treat cybercrime as though it’s something new and different, when in fact, it’s still crime.
