A house in Glen Cove connected to the "Father of the American Roller Coaster" is on the market for $1.3 million. The taxes are $14,727.
LaMarcus Adna Thompson was a notable resident of Glen Cove, and is best known for developing a series of gravity rides and roller coasters throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. This home was built for his daughter, while Thompson lived next door, said listing agent Karen Richter, of Branch Real Estate Group.

Built in 1908, there are many details that have been preserved within the home and around the property, she said.
"The backyard has a cement block that used to be a kids' ice skating rink, when the original owner had it," Richter said. "If you extend it a little bit, it could be a pickleball or tennis court. I think that's a really big advantage."

Inside, there are five bedrooms and two bathrooms, spanning 3,178 square feet. The home is located on Lamarcus Avenue, sitting on just over half an acre.
Original details include some flooring, woodwork, a wood-burning fireplace and pocket doors in the living room: "Everything was left exactly the way it was, only fixed," Richter said.

The house also underwent a renovation starting in 2024, which included upgrades to the plumbing, electric, central air conditioning, gas heating, kitchen appliances and windows.
Plus, "both bathrooms were gutted, but it all stays within the style," the agent added.
The property is in the Glen Cove City School District.
