THE SCOOP Home to well-known businesses, easy commutes and access to shopping and restaurants make Jericho the whole package.
"People want to live in Jericho. That's the reality. The lifestyle is fantastic," said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
But the most well-known aspect of Jericho, he said, is probably its "world class school district."
For its 2025-26 rankings, U.S. News & World Report placed Jericho High School 108th in the nation and 9th in New York State.
"The commitment of the community to support the district, the commitment of the professionals in the district to create and maintain a district of the very highest caliber in the country is very, very special," Saladino said.

Headquartered in the hamlet are a mix of major corporations like 1-800 Flowers and local staples like Jericho Cider Mill, one of the oldest businesses in America.
"The neighborhood is very safe," said Delia Zhang, an agent with Homes By Mara who's lived in the hamlet for 12 years. "It's convenient," she said, referring to the easy access to highways and Long Island Rail Road, shopping, restaurants and parks.

Originally called "Lusum," the hamlet was part of a larger land purchase that Welsh settler Robert Williams made in 1648 from the Matinecock tribe. By 1692, the Quakers, who were among the first New Yorkers to release the people they enslaved in the 1770s, had turned it into a thriving center and renamed it Jericho.
One of the oldest main roads on Long Island, Jericho Turnpike, became a main thoroughfare for farmers traveling from Jamaica. The road was named for the hamlet where it ended in the early nineteenth century.
A sleepy hamlet of fewer than 600 residents as of 1940, Jericho changed about a decade later when Phebe Underhill Seaman, a great-great-granddaughter of prominent preacher Elias Hicks, subdivided her sprawling property. Farmland then gave way to a bustling suburb with office parks near the expressway.
Today, a 113,800-square-foot, 180-room hotel and conference center, part of Hilton's Curio Collection, is in the design phase for Jericho Plaza.
Buyers today will find several high-end condo and townhome developments in addition to single family split-levels, Colonials and ranches.
