John Lackey struck out eight in seven dominant innings, Kris Bryant and Ben Zobrist hit homers and the Chicago Cubs beat the Phillies, 8-1, yesterday in Philadelphia.

Lackey (7-2) gave up three hits and extended his scoreless streak to 13 2⁄3 innings. Each of the Cubs’ starters has an ERA under 2.90.

“You don’t want to be the guy who screws up,’’ Lackey said. “When a guy gives you the baton, you don’t want to drop it. We definitely root for each other. You don’t want to let the boys down.’’

Phillies starter Vince Velasquez left the game after getting one out because of right biceps soreness. Velasquez threw two pitches and quickly left the mound when a trainer came out.

Blue Jays 7, Tigers 2: Josh Donaldson had three hits, including a three-run homer and a triple, and R.A. Dickey (4-6) won consecutive starts for the first time since last summer as visiting Toronto avoided a three-game sweep.

Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer and Kevin Pillar added a two-run triple as the Blue Jays stopped Detroit’s five-game winning streak.

Orioles 4, Royals 0: Chris Tillman (8-1) pitched effectively into the eighth inning to earn his seventh consecutive win, Ryan Flaherty drove in two runs as host Baltimore extended Kansas City’s losing streak to seven games.

Rays 6, Diamondbacks 3: Corey Dickerson homered twice and Desmond Jennings also homered for Tampa Bay, which took two of three in Arizona to win consecutive series for only the second time this season.

Braves 4, Padres 2: Ender Inciarte finished a home run shy of the cycle and scored twice and Julio Teheran (2-6) backed himself with an RBI single as visiting Atlanta stopped a six-game losing streak.

Hamilton has knee surgery

Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton had extensive surgery on his left knee, including reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. The Rangers said Dr. Walt Lowe also repaired meniscus and lateral cartilage in that knee during the scheduled procedure in Houston, where Hamilton will begin rehabilitation in the next few days. It was the third time since September the 35-year-old Hamilton had surgery on his left knee. — AP
