Joe Girardi batted Alex Rodriguez — eight for his last 38 and homerless in his previous 65 at-bats entering Wednesday — third and has no plans to move the third baseman from that spot.

“The one thing is, he has been getting on base some,” Girardi said, a reference to A-Rod’s walks (five in the last six games and 40 overall, sixth-most on the team). “And that’s important in front of Robbie Cano. We want those RBI opportunities. And at any point, we know the damage he [Rodriguez] can do.”
