MLB All-Star Game: Notable performances from Yankees and Mets players

The 95th MLB All-Star Game will be played Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Four Mets — Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, Francisco Lindor and David Peterson — are on the NL roster. And four Yankees — Aaron Judge, Max Fried, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Carlos Rodon — are on the AL team.
Mets and Yankees players have had a pronounced impact on the game. Some selected highlights of players for the two New York teams.

1933: AL 4, NL 2
Comiskey Park, Chicago
The inaugural Summer Classic was appropriately christened when Babe Ruth blasted the first home run in All-Star Game history, a two-run shot that gave the AL a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
1934: AL 9, NL 7
Polo Grounds
Ruth and Lou Gehrig were the first two batters of the five future Hall of Famers that Giants’ lefty Carl Hubbell struck out in succession in the first and second innings. Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin were Hubbell's other three strikeout victims.
1935: AL 4, NL 1
Cleveland Municipal Stadium
Starting pitcher Lefty Gomez worked six innings striking out four and allowing one run, three hits and two walks to earn the win.
1936: NL 4, AL 3
National League Park, Boston
Gehrig hit a solo home run in the seventh and drew two walks.

1937: AL 8, NL 3
Griffith Stadium, Washington, D.C.
Gehrig went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. The Yankees' "Iron Horse" would play only one more full season before feeling the effects of the degenerative nerve disease that would claim his life in 1941.
1939: AL 3, NL 1
Yankee Stadium
George Selkirk drove in Bill Dickey on a single to right to tie the score at 1 in the fourth and Joe DiMaggio hit a solo home run in the fifth. Red Ruffing started for the AL. He struck out four and allowed one run in three innings.
1941: AL 7, NL 5
Briggs Stadium, Detroit
DiMaggio went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and three runs. He and Joe Gordon scored when Boston's Ted Williams blasted a walk-off three-run home run in the ninth.

1942: AL 3, NL 1
Polo Grounds
Spud Chandler started for the AL and struck out two and allowed two hits in four scoreless innings. DiMaggio was 2-for-4, and Tommy Henrich doubled and scored a run.
1947: AL 2, NL 1
Wrigley Field, Chicago
Spec Shea struck out two and allowed one run in three innings of relief to earn the win. Joe Page recorded the final four outs for the save.
1948: AL 5, NL 2
Sportsman’s Park, St. Louis
Vic Raschi struck out three in three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Raschi hit a two-run single in the fourth to give the AL a 4-2 lead. DiMaggio added a sacrifice fly later in the fourth.
1949: AL 11, NL 7
Ebbets Field
DiMaggio, who had an RBI-single in the first inning, hit a two-run double to give the AL an 8-5 lead in the sixth.
1954: AL 11, NL 9
Cleveland Municipal Stadium
Whitey Ford started for the AL and allowed one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings. Yogi Berra went 2-for-4 with two runs and Mickey Mantle was 2-for-5 with a run.
1955: NL 6, AL 5
Milwaukee County Stadium
Mantle, batting cleanup, blasted a three-run homer off the Phillies' Robin Roberts.
1956: NL 7, AL 3
Griffith Stadium, Washington, D.C.
Mantle hit a solo home run — his final All-Star Game RBI (he was only 10-for-43 in All-Star Games).
1957: AL 6, NL 5
Sportsman's Park, St. Louis
Berra drove in Bill Skowron on a single to right to give the AL a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.
1959 (Game 2): AL 5, NL 3
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Berra hit a two-run home run to give the AL a 3-1 lead in the third inning.

1962 (Game 2): AL 9, NL 4
Wrigley Field, Chicago
Roger Maris went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs in his seventh and final All-Star appearance.
1967: NL 2, AL 1
Anaheim Stadium
Tom Seaver struck out White Sox's Ken Berry for the final out of the NL’s 15-inning win.
1968: NL 1, AL 0
Houston Astrodome
Seaver struck out five in two innings, including Mantle, who was playing in his final All-Star Game. “He wasn’t throwing aspirins,’’ the AL’s Frank Howard said. “He was throwing Bufferins.’’
1970: NL 5, AL 4
Riverfront Stadium, Cincinnati
Seaver started for the NL and struck out four and allowed one hit in three scoreless innings. Bud Harrelson went 2-for-3 with two runs.
1972: NL 4, AL 3
Atlanta Stadium
Tug McGraw struck out the side in the ninth and added another strikeout in the 10th to earn the win.
1975: NL 6, AL 3
Milwaukee County Stadium
Lefthander Jon Matlack was co-MVP with Cubs third baseman Bill Madlock. Matlack, who struck out four in two innings for the win, is the only Mets player to win MVP. As for sharing the award, Matlack said, “Madlock and I joked afterwards that they got the names confused and didn't know who to give the award to, that's why we shared it.’’
1979: NL 7, AL 6
Seattle Kingdome
Lee Mazzilli hit a tying pinch hit solo home run in the eighth inning. Mazzilli forced in the winning run when he walked with the bases loaded against Ron Guidry in the ninth.
1983: AL 13, NL 3
Comiskey Park, Chicago
Dave Winfield went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs for the AL.
1984: NL, 3, AL 1
Candlestick Park, San Francisco
Nineteen-year-old Dwight Gooden, the youngest All-Star in history, struck out the side in the fifth and added another scoreless inning.
1985: NL 6, AL 1
Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Minneapolis
Darryl Strawberry went 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs for the NL.

1986: AL 3, NL 2
Houston Astrodome
Winfield doubled off of Gooden and scored a run in the second inning for the AL. Gooden started for the NL and allowed two runs in three innings with two strikeouts.
1987: NL 2, AL 0
Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum
Sid Fernandez pitched a scoreless 13th inning to earn the save and Keith Hernandez went 1-for-2 for the NL. The Yankees' Winfield, who played all 13 innings, was tagged out at home plate when he collided with Atlanta catcher Ozzie Virgil Sr. trying to score what would have been the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
1988: AL 2, NL 1
Riverfront Stadium, Cincinnati
Winfield went 1-for-3 with a double and a run and Rickey Henderson went 1-for-2 with a walk for the AL. Gooden started for the NL and allowed one run on three hits in three innings.
1992: AL 13, NL 6
Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego
Roberto Kelly hit a two-run double in the eighth inning for the AL. David Cone retired the side in order in the fourth inning for the NL.
1996: NL 6, AL 0
Veterans Stadium, Philadelphia
Lance Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base for the NL.
1998: AL 13, NL 8
Coors Field, Colorado
David Wells started for the AL and struck out one and walked one in two hitless innings.
2000: AL 6, NL 3
Turner Field, Atlanta
Derek Jeter had a double, two singles and three RBIs and was named MVP. As a 14-time All-Star, Jeter was 13-for-27 (.481).
2001: AL 4, NL 1
Safeco Field, Seattle
Jeter hit a solo home run in the sixth. Roger Clemens started for the AL and retired all six hitters he faced. Andy Pettitte struck out one in a scoreless fourth inning.
2002: AL 7, NL 7
Miller Park, Milwaukee
Alfonso Soriano hit a solo home run for the AL in the fifth inning of the infamous 7-7 tie game. Mike Piazza drove in the first run on a groundout in the second inning for the NL.
2003: AL 7, NL 6
U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago
Clemens struck out two in a scoreless third inning for the AL and Jason Giambi hit a solo home run in the seventh.
2004: AL 9, NL 4
Minute Maid Park, Houston
Alex Rodriguez hit an RBI-triple, Jeter went 3-for-3 with a run and Giambi went 1-for-2 with a run.
2006: AL 3, NL 2
PNC Park, Pittsburgh
David Wright hit a solo home run and Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4 with a double and a run for the NL. Mariano Rivera worked around a one-out error in the ninth to earn the save for the AL.
2007: AL 5, NL 4
AT&T Park, San Francisco
All six New York position players had at least one hit. Jeter, Rodriguez and Jorge Posada each went 1-for-3 for the AL. Jose Reyes was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base, Beltran tripled and scored a run and Wright was 1-for-3 for the NL.
2008: AL 4, NL 3
Yankee Stadium
An ailing George Steinbrenner made one of his final public visits to Yankee Stadium and was on the field in a golf cart. He wept as he was greeted by Berra, Ford, Reggie Jackson and Goose Gossage. "The Boss" was warmly greeted by fans as the architect of seven World Series titles.
2010: NL 3, AL 1
Angel Stadium of Anaheim
Wright went 2-for-2 with a stolen base for the NL. Pettitte struck out two in a scoreless third inning for the AL.

Citi Field
Rivera pitched a scoreless eighth inning in a setup role for Rangers closer Joe Nathan. Rivera pitched nine scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out five in his career All-Star outings. Former Met Matt Harvey started for the NL and threw two scoreless innings.
2014: AL 5, NL 3
Target Field, Minneapolis
In his 14th and final All-Star Game, Jeter went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
2015: AL 6, NL 3
Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati
Jacob deGrom dominated in his All-Star debut, striking out the side on 10 pitches in the sixth inning.
2018: AL 8, NL 6
Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
Aaron Judge hit a solo home run and Luis Severino struck out two in a scoreless second inning.
2019: AL 4, NL 3
Progressive Field, Cleveland
Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth to earn the save. Masahiro Tanaka pitched a scoreless second inning and Gary Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a run. Pete Alonso hit a two-run single in the eighth and deGrom retired the side in order on seven pitches in the third for the NL.
2022: AL 3, NL 2
Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
Giancarlo Stanton hit a tying two-run home run in the fourth inning and was the game’s MVP. Nestor Cortes struck out two in a scoreless sixth inning and Clay Holmes recorded two outs in the eighth.

2023: NL 3, AL 2
T-Mobile Park, Seattle
In his sixth All-Star selection and first start, Gerrit Cole retired the side in order in the first inning on nine pitches.
2024: AL 5, NL 3
Globe Life Field, Arlington, Texas
Juan Soto hit a two-run double to centerfield in the third inning. He worked a 7-pitch walk in the first inning.
