Red Sox 6, Twins 3

Rain fell on the Minnesota Twins at home for the first time in 29 years and John Lackey dampened their bats. Lackey turned in a second strong start and Jeremy Hermida gave Boston room with a three-run double in the eighth inning, leading the Red Sox to victory in the second game at Target Field. Lackey lasted 62/3 innings for his first Red Sox victory, lifted early by Marco Scutaro's two singles and Dustin Pedroia's RBI double and solo home run.

Rays 9, Orioles 1

B.J. Upton homered twice and drove in four runs, Carlos Peña hit a three-run shot and Tampa Bay ended a dreadful homestand for Baltimore. David Price allowed one run and four hits in seven innings for the Rays, whose 6-3 start is the best in franchise history. Tampa Bay swept the three-game series, something it did only once on the road last year. Miguel Tejada homered for the Orioles.

Royals 7, Tigers 3

Jose Guillen homered for the fourth straight game, connecting for his 200th career shot and leading visiting Kansas City. Guillen hit his fifth home run in a four-game span. His solo drive capped a two-run seventh inning that put the Royals ahead 5-3. Billy Butler added a pair of sacrifice flies for the Royals. Magglio Ordonez homered for the Tigers and Johnny Damon got his 1,000th RBI.

Rangers 6, Indians 2

Nelson Cruz hit his AL-leading sixth home run and fill-in starter Colby Lewis tied a career high with 10 strikeouts for visiting Texas. Lewis allowed two runs in 51/3 innings. He started in place of C.J. Wilson, who came down with food poisoning.

White Sox 11, Blue Jays 1

Carlos Quentin hit a grand slam and drove in six runs. Only 10,610 were at Rogers Center to see the rout with the Toronto Raptors playing across town for a spot in the NBA playoffs. Chicago's Andruw Jones hit his third homer of the year, making him 50th in big league history with 391.
