Andy Pettitte, scheduled to pitch Monday for Double-A Trenton in Portland, Maine, instead will head south and start for Class A Tampa, Brian Cashman said. Temperatures in Portland are forecast to drop into the low 40s Monday night, and the Yankees are wary of sending the 39-year-old into that kind of cold.

Meanwhile, Girardi said the Roger Clemens perjury trial -- in which Pettitte is expected to be a witness -- won't impact when the Yankees decide to insert Pettitte in the rotation. And he doesn't expect it to be a distraction.

"Andy's pretty good at blocking things out,'' Girardi said. "It might keep him from being with us as much as he should be, but I think he'll be able to block it out.''
