David Ortiz and Darnell McDonald each hit a home run and Daisuke Matsuzaka won for the first time in more than a month as the Boston Red Sox beat the Blue Jays, 3-2, Sunday in Toronto. Aaron Hill homered for host Toronto. Matsuzaka allowed two runs and six hits in six-plus innings. He walked none and struck out five.

Carlos Quentin hit a grand slam and a solo homer, and host Chicago surged into first place in the American League Central. Andruw Jones hit his 400th career homer.

Jason Bartlett hit a game-ending single over a drawn-in outfield in the 10th inning for host Tampa Bay. Carl Crawford homered for the Rays, who are 9-2 in July after going 11-14 during June.

Jack Cust homered for the second time in three games, Adam Rosales added a two-run single for host Oakland. Bobby Abreu homered for the second straight day for the Angels, who ended their dismal road trip 1-6.

Cole Hamels tossed six-hit ball into the eighth inning, Jimmy Rollins drove in the only run and host Philadelphia completed a four-game sweep. Hamels struck out three, walked three and didn't allow a run.
