Braves pitcher Kris Medlen will undergo season-ending right elbow ligament-replacement surgery today, while teammate Brandon Beachy is getting another opinion on his ailing right bow.

Medlen will undergo the second Tommy John surgery of his career. Beachy underwent the same procedure in 2012 and has endured multiple setbacks since then. Medlen and Beachy were expected to be stalwarts of the Braves' rotation.

A's Parker out for season

Oakland Athletics righthander Jarrod Parker needs right elbow Tommy John surgery and will miss the season. Parker had a 10.61 ERA in three spring training starts. Last week, Arizona Diamondbacks lefty Patrick Corbin also elected to have Tommy John surgery.

Iglesias has leg fractures

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, 24, says he has stress fractures in both legs and isn't sure when he'll be able to play again, leaving the Tigers two weeks to fill his spot for Opening Day and perhaps a lot longer. The smooth-fielding Iglesias played through pain in his shins last year while hitting .303 for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit. Free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew is available, and Seattle Mariners infielder Nick Franklin could be a trade target.

Feldman to face Yanks

Scott Feldman will start the Houston Astros' opener on April 1 at home against the Yankees. Feldman was 12-12 last season for the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles and signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Astros during the offseason.

Tillman is Buck's pick

Righthander Chris Tillman has been selected by Orioles manager Buck Showalter to start on Opening Day against the defending champion Red Sox. Tillman was 16-7 with 3.71 ERA last season and made the AL All-Star team . . . Cliff Lee will start the Philadelphia Phillies' opener on March 31 at the Texas Rangers. -- AP
