Blue Jays beat Indians -- again, 7-4 in extras!
Even if it took some extra work again, the Blue Jays aren't complaining about their start. So they've played 28 innings in two grueling games. So what? They'd play 28 more if it meant two more comeback wins.
Rajai Davis hit a two-run double in the 12th inning Saturday, Toronto rallied for the second straight game against Cleveland's bullpen and the Jays beat the Indians in extra innings for the second straight game -- by the same score of 7-4.
Davis' hit off Tony Sipp (0-1) gave Toronto a 5-3 lead in another extra-inning game between the teams, who set a major-league record by playing the longest Opening Day game in history -- 16 innings Thursday.
"It's definitely a grind, but winning makes it all worth it," said the Jays' Brett Lawrie, who had three hits and broke up Ubaldo Jimenez's no-hit bid in the seventh with a two-run single. "You get to extra innings and it was a dogfight. You just have to win it, and we did. People don't understand how tough a grind it is."
Pujols gets first hit in loss
Albert Pujols has never gone hitless in his first two games of the season. That streak is still alive after he got his first hit with the Angels, a double in the fourth inning of a 6-3 loss to the visiting Royals. He tried to score on a single to left by Kendry Morales, but was thrown out by Alex Gordon even though Pujols' hook slide appeared to have beaten Humberto Quintero's tag. Luke Hochevar, who entered 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA in four previous starts against the Angels, took a shutout into the seventh inning for the victory.
Going, going, gone!
The Mets' Lucas Duda wasn't the only player to hit two home runs Saturday. Not including late games, others seeing double: Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers, Corey Hart of the Brewers and the Diamondbacks' Aaron Hill, who homered in the first and second innings. Not surprisingly, the Mets, Tigers, Brewers and D-backs all won. -- AP
