Blues Jays trash Lackey

John Lackey's shortest start as a member of the Boston Red Sox was a very long 21/3 innings.

Lackey allowed seven runs and nine hits as Toronto took a huge early lead Monday. Then the Blue Jays tacked on a couple of runs at the end and held off host Boston, 9-7.

Lackey (5-8) said his velocity was good but his location was not, and the Blue Jays took advantage in going ahead 7-0. "I would have fixed it if I had known" what was causing the struggles, Lackey said. "Some soft ones fell in on good pitches and I made some bad pitches that got hit hard. It kind of all added up to that."

Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis left the game in the fourth after getting hit in the upper back. Francona said Youkilis will be evaluated today.

Twins 7, Rays 0:Brian Duensing threw a six-hitter and Danny Valencia homered and drove in three runs for host Minnasota. Duensing (6-7) struck out seven and walked four in his second career shutout. The lefty retired 15 of the final 16 hitters he faced.

Rangers 13, Orioles 4: Former Met Endy Chavez had his first four-RBI game in more than eight years with a long home run and a double for host Texas. Adrian Beltre also homered for the Rangers.

Angels 5, Tigers 1: Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells homered and Joel Piñeiro yielded five hits in seven solid innings for host Los Angeles, winners of nine of 11. The Angels are tied with the Rangers for first in the AL West after winning 14 of 19.

Mariners 2, Athletics 1:Michael Pineda and three relievers combined on a three-hitter and Josh Bard hit his first homer of the season to lead visiting Seattle. Justin Smoak added a tiebreaking double in the seventh for the Mariners, who are just 21/2 games out of first place in the AL West.

White Sox 5, Royals 4: A.J. Pierzynski scored the winning run for host Chicago on a balk by Aaron Crow in the ninth after Kansas City had tied it on an Eric Hosmer homer first ruled a triple in the top of the inning.-- AP
