The Yankees have activated Brett Gardner and David Aardsma from the disabled list.

Steve Pearce and Justin Thomas were designated for assignment to make room for Gardner, who hasn't played in a major-league game since April 17, and Aardsma on the 40-man roster.

Gardner only played nine regular season games before being placed on the DL with a number of elbow issues. The outfielder only played in four rehab assignments, going 1-for-11.

Aardsma is coming back from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched since 2010.

Gardner isn't in the starting lineup for the Yankees in their game against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. He's expected to be used mostly as a pinch-runner.
