Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo (3-2) gave up the Cardinals' only hit in the eighth inning as Milwaukee ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over host St. Louis Saturday.
The Brewers' opening day starter entered the game with 53 hits allowed, tops in the major leagues, and ended a string of five poor outings in which he was 1-2 with an 8.89 ERA.
Cubs 3, Reds 2: Cincinnati reliever Francisco Cordero allowed two runs in the ninth inning to hand the game to host Chicago. Carlos Peña began the rally with his third homer in four games, tying it at 2, and Kosuke Fukudome ended it with a two-out RBI single into center.
Red Sox 4, Twins 0: Clay Buchholz combined with four relievers on a three-hitter for host Boston in a game delayed two hours because of rain. Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and he drove in two runs for the Red Sox, who collected 12 hits.
Rays 8, Orioles 2: B.J. Upton, playing only because he appealed a two-game suspension for arguing, hit a three-run homer and doubled twice for visiting Tampa Bay. Teammate Evan Longoria homered and drove in four runs. The Rays tied a club record with their seventh straight road win. Host Baltimore scored only twice despite five hits and 10 walks.
