Billy Butler hit a three-run homer and Luke Hochevar pitched seven strong innings yesterday to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Hochevar (7-8) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while matching his season high for strikeouts with six. He retired 14 of the last 16 batters he faced and gave up just one extra-base hit, a third-inning double by Yamaico Navarro.

"He was dynamite," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Hochevar. "Just dynamite."

Dustin Pedroia led off the eighth with a home run to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.

Rays 10, Athletics 8: Desmond Jennings hit his first career home run and later added a two-run double in a seven-run seventh as visiting Tampa Bay rallied from five runs down. Evan Longoria and B.J. Upton also homered for the Rays.

Angels 12, Tigers 7: Mark Trumbo homered and drove in a career-high five runs to lead visiting Los Angeles. Trumbo also tripled, doubled and had three runs, but missed the cycle when he grounded out leading off the ninth inning.

Marlins 5, Nationals 2: Mike Stanton homered for the second consecutive game and five relievers held host Washington to one run in 5 1/3 innings as Florida completed a three-game sweep.

Padres 4, D-Backs 3: Jesus Guzman had two RBIs, rookie Luis Martinez drove in the go-ahead run and Heath Bell got his 30th save as host San Diego avoided a three-game sweep.
