DETROIT -- Impending free agent C.J. Wilson said his focus is on the playoffs but gave an answer that left plenty open to interpretation when asked about his long-term feelings about remaining with the Rangers.
"I'm here right now, so that's the focus," the lefthander said Wednesday, one day before his scheduled start in Game 4 of the ALCS. "I'm wearing a Texas Rangers uniform. I'm not concerning myself with any other organizations at that point."
That's not to say he's not aware of the discussion surrounding his likely foray into the free-agent market.
"I'm a baseball fan so obviously I pay attention to everything that's going on," Wilson said. "I read stuff every once in a while about what's going on in baseball, other organizations. I try to keep abreast of it because it's my industry."
He then complimented the Rangers. "The fact that this organization I think is going in a very good direction, obviously, I think is a very good thing for everybody," Wilson said.
How does he handle speculation about his future? "By ignoring it. I'm in the playoffs. Where else would I rather be than right now? This is the ultimate spot to be."
Valverde admires Mo
Tigers closer Jose Valverde has three saves this postseason and before Wednesday night's game expressed his admiration for Mariano Rivera, who has a record 42 postseason saves.
"I don't know how Mariano [does it]," Valverede said. "I respect this guy because sometimes it's too much pressure."
Beltre inRangers third baseman Adrian Beltre, who fouled a ball off his left knee in Game 3 but finished the game, was in the Game 4 lineup.
