The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Lance Berkman, who has had a bounceback season and will return in 2012.

General manager John Mozeliak announced the deal Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.

The 35-year-old Berkman has been terrific for the Cardinals this season, with 31 home runs and a .300 average. The six-time All-Star

The switch-hitting Berkman is a six-time All Star, including this year.

He battled a left knee injury and batted a career-worst .248 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs for the Astros and Yankees last year. He briefly considered retiring, but started training and found a home in St. Louis.
