Rule 5 pick Cesar Cabral, a strong candidate to be the Yankees’ second lefthander out of the bullpen to go with Boone Logan, had an MRI, CT scan and X-rays Saturday and was diagnosed with a stress fracture in the tip of his left elbow. Clay Rapada, who also has pitched well in spring training, could get the spot.

“It’s frustrating,” Girardi said of Cabral, who will be further evaluated by team physician Christopher Ahmad. “He’d had a really good camp for us.” \

Before Michael Pineda came down with tendinitis, the “loser” of the rotation battle had a decent chance of ending up in the bullpen as the long man. That role now, Girardi said, very well could go to Adam Warren, D.J. Mitchell or David Phelps, all righthanders. Warren, who had pitched well in spring training, didn’t have a good start yesterday Saturday , allowing six runs and 10 hits in 52 / 3 innings . . . Raul Ibañez, who started 2-for-37, went 2-for-3 in the Yankees’ 11-9 victory over the Astros, including his third homer of the week . . . On a blustery afternoon at Osceola County Stadium, the Yankees (five) and Astros (four) totaled nine homers and 30 hits.
