Brooks Conrad, playing for the injured Dan Uggla, homered, scored twice and used his speed on the basepaths to help the Atlanta Braves overcome a shaky start by Tommy Hanson to beat the Colorado Rockies, 9-6, Thursday.

The switch-hitting Conrad hadn't started since July 4 against Colorado but didn't show any rust. He broke up a double play in the third that led to one run and he broke up a double play in the fifth that helped the Braves score another.

"That's Brooksie, man. That's him," Jason Heyward said. "That's why we love him around here and we pull for him."

Heyward and Freddie Freeman each homered and had two hits and Nate McLouth had two hits for Atlanta, which earned a split of the four-game series.

Carlos Gonzalez homered for the Rockies before leaving in the fifth inning with a right wrist injury while swinging -- he fouled the ball off. An MRI showed only inflammation. It's the same wrist on which he sustained a deep bone bruise after running into the centerfield wall on July 3.

Padres 5, Marlins 3: Dustin Moseley (3-9) and three relievers held Florida without an earned run as visiting San Diego completed a series sweep.

Padres second baseman Orlando Hudson collided with a wall after catching a pop foul in the seventh inning and was carted off the field. He was taken to a hospital for neck and shoulder tests but was expected to be fine, a team spokesman said.

Cameron Maybin had four hits and two runs for the Padres. Javier Vazquez (6-9) went only 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, the last on a bases-loaded walk.

Tigers 6, Twins 2: Justin Verlander threw eight dominant innings and Jhonny Peralta drove in three runs with three hits as visiting Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota for the 10th straight time.

Brennan Boesch hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, who moved a half-game ahead of idle Cleveland in the division. The fourth-place Twins fell six games back.

Verlander (13-5) gave up five hits and one run without a walk, striking out nine.

Angels 1, Rangers 0: Jered Weaver (13-4) won a riveting duel with fellow All-Star C.J. Wilson (10-4), and host Los Angeles converted an error by Texas' Endy Chavez into an unearned run as it moved within three games of the AL West leaders. Weaver scattered seven hits in seven-plus innings and struck out six to reduce his major league-best ERA to 1.81.

Blue Jays 7, Mariners 5: Rajai Davis hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning as host Toronto handed Seattle its 12th straight loss. Miguel Olivo hit Seattle's first grand slam of the season in the top of the eighth.
