Contest: The Emerald Diamond
"The Emerald Diamond" is a heartfelt film about the growth of baseball in Ireland. It's directed by John J. Fitzgerald, who - after his film - made the reality TV series "Playing for Peanuts," about Wally Backman and his adventures with the independent South Georgia Peanuts.
This one slows down in a few spots, but its main characters are so sincere and likeable that you'll find yourself rooting for them to succeed at their mission: To make Ireland more baseball-friendly. They largely succeeded, although there's obviously plenty of room for growth.
And I'll give my copy of the DVD to the first person who e-mails me - at kdavidoff@newsday.com - with the correct answer to this question:
Among Major League Baseball players born outside the United States, who has played in the most games?
Here are the contest rules.
--UPDATE, 1:47 p.m.: We have a winner! Henry from Denville, NJ knew that Omar Vizquel, with 2,861 games heading into tonight - 14th place all-time - tops this category. Here is the list.
