WASHINGTON -- The Minnesota Twins picked Daniel Murphy’s brother Jonathan in the 19th round of baseball’s amateur draft. Unlike his brother, Jonathan Murphy is a righthanded hitter and outfielder. He is a senior at Jacksonville University.
“He does everything on a baseball field better than I do,” said Daniel Murphy, whom the Mets drafted in the 13th round in 2006. “Runs well. Very athletic with a little bit of room to go, to get more strength to his body. He’s got to work on cutting down the strikeouts. I think he’s somebody who will continue to get better with consistent at-bats.”
...Shortstop Ruben Tejada was in New York, getting checked out by the team's doctors after reinjuring his right quad in a rehab game on Tuesday.
