Wright said he "hopes" to be with the Mets two years from now. The team holds a $16 million option on Wright for 2013.

"I'd love to get this thing turned around and headed in the right direction and I think we've done that, taking that first step," Wright said.

Touching on the electricity in 2006, Wright said, "The atmosphere here was incredible . . . Running out on the field for the first time, looking up in the upper deck at Shea and literally seeing it rock, I was like, 'Man, this is [it], doesn't get any better than this.'"

Wright also talked about his relationship with Carter, saying he was "star struck" when he met Carter as an 18-year-old.

"You have a Hall of Famer and a World Series champion that's helping an 18-year-old, teach[ing] him how to be a leader," Wright said. "Up until he passed, he would call once a month, twice a month and just want to talk baseball."
