Blue Jays 3, Rays 1: Ricky Romero and Jon Rauch combined on a three-hitter, Jose Bautista hit his 32nd homer for visiting Toronto. Romero (9-9) struck out seven and walked four in eight innings.

Tigers 6, Rangers 5: Brennan Boesch hit a solo home run off Mike Adams amid an eighth-inning rain shower for host Detroit. Joaquin Benoit (3-3) blew a 5-2 lead in the top of the eighth, allowing a solo homer to Nelson Cruz and a tying two-run shot by Mike Napoli.

Orioles 8, Royals 2: Mark Reynolds homered, doubled and drove in five runs for visiting Baltimore.

Nationals 9, Braves 3: Rick Ankiel kept up his sudden power surge, hitting a grand slam off Derek Lowe for host Washington.

Phillies 5, Rockies 0: Kyle Kendrick tossed eight sparkling innings, and Ryan Howard homered twice for visiting Philadelphia. Hunter Pence doubled twice and Shane Victorino and Raul Ibanez each singled and scored a run for the Phillies.

Cubs 11, Pirates 6: Alfonso Soriano hit two of Chicago's season-high six home runs and the Cubs had a season-best 23 hits. It is the Pirates' fifth loss in a row.

Reds 5, Astros 1: Edgar Renteria hit a grand slam in visiting Cincinnati's five-run fifth inning and Homer Bailey pitched eight solid innings.
