Gehrig tried to trade what baseball card?
The worst card-trade proposal in history unfolds in the opening scene of the 1942 movie, "Pride of the Yankees," in which young Lou Gehrig tries to bribe his way into a sandlot baseball game.
"I have some Sweet Caporal baseball cards," Gehrig offers. But the bullying catcher scoffs at the five big-name players Lou offered. Sweet Caporal was a tobacco brand, and one of the players named was Honus Wagner. Yes, it was that Honus Wagner card.
A Long Island family sold one with the same Sweet Caporal back for $704,500 at an estate sale in 2008.
