With one mighty cut after another, Jason Giambi looked like the old Giambino.

Giambi became the second-oldest player to hit three homers in a game and tied his career high with seven RBIs, leading the Colorado Rockies past the host Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1, Thursday night.

"It's nice to contribute and get an opportunity to play," said Giambi, who started at first base because Todd Helton had a stiff back. "It's exciting, something you dream about."

Giambi went deep in his first three at-bats. The 40-year-old former AL MVP entered 3-for-26 (.115) this season with one home run and four RBIs. Stan Musial was 41 when he connected three times against the Mets on July 8, 1962.

With two chances to match the major league record of four homers in a game, Giambi struck out looking against Scott Mathieson in the sixth and went down swinging against J.C. Romero in the ninth.

Cubs 5, Marlins 1: Marlon Byrd homered for the second straight night and Casey Coleman (2-3) had a career-high seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 shutout innings for visiting Chicago.

Diamondbacks 2, Braves 1: Josh Collmenter (3-0) pitched six innings and ran his scoreless streak to 21 and host Arizona handed Jair Jurrjens (5-1) his first loss.

Cardinals 4, Astros 2: First-year starter Kyle McClellan (6-1) became the National League's first six-game winner and backup catcher Gerald Laird hit a two-run double as host St. Louis completed a two-game sweep.

Pirates 5, Reds 3: James McDonald (3-3) pitched into the seventh inning and Neil Walker doubled home a pair of runs as visiting Pittsburgh completed a two-game sweep, its first in Cincinnati since 2003.

Blue Jays 3, Rays 2: J.P. Arencibia hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh inning and Juan Rivera also connected for host Toronto.

Red Sox 4, Tigers 3: Carl Crawford hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to lift host Boston to its sixth straight win.

Royals 2, Rangers 1: Jeff Francoeur's RBI single in the 10th inning helped host Kansas City snap a five-game losing streak.

White Sox 8, Indians 2: Gavin Floyd (5-3) pitched seven solid innings as host Chicago swept the two-game miniseries.

Twins 11, Athletics 1: Justin Morneau homered and had three hits and Rene Rivera hit his first home run in nearly five years for visiting Minnesota.

Mariners 2, Angels 1: Torii Hunter lost Carlos Peguero's fly ball in the sun in the 10th inning, giving host Seattle an unlikely win.
