Sandy Alderson struck down a report that the Mets are definitely going to offer David Wright a contract extension this season.

Alderson reiterated the Mets want their current third baseman to be a part of the franchise for years, but he isn’t ready to show his cards just yet. The general manager has been careful with his choice of words regarding possible negotiations with Wright and wanted to clarify some remarks he made to CBSSports.com.

“We certainly will talk to his agent at some time this season,” Alderson said after the Mets’ 6-3 win over the Phillies. “I don’t want to infer that we will make an offer or we won’t make an offer. We expect to talk to his agent this season certainly.

“We expect to talk to his agent this year and I can’t foresee what exactly will take place. But that’s as far as I’m going at this point ... I [have] said we would like to have David here long term. I stand by that statement.”
