The built-to-win Red Sox still haven't won.

Boston dropped its fifth straight to open the season Wednesday night, 8-4, to the Cleveland Indians, who got four RBIs from Asdrubal Cabrera and a two-run homer from Shin-Soo Choo.

"This game will humble you in a hurry and it's doing that to us right now," manager Terry Francona said. "We've got to start acting like a good team. We've got to find a way to win a game."

The Red Sox haven't started this poorly since 1996, and after finishing this series Thursday, the Sox head home to face the Yankees Friday and what could be angry fans in Fenway Park.

Rangers 7, Mariners 3: Mitch Moreland hit a tiebreaking double off Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez (1-1) and host Texas remained unbeaten.

The AL champion Rangers are 6-0 for the first time since 1996, when they set a team record by winning their first seven games. Texas has a day off today before starting its first road trip of the season Friday night in Baltimore.

Tigers 7, Orioles 3: Alex Avila homered and had a career-high five RBIs and Justin Verlander (1-0) allowed four hits in eight innings for visiting Detroit. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez also connected for the Tigers, who became the first team this season to score more than one run against Baltimore (4-1).

Angels 5, Rays 1: Winless Tampa Bay lost again when Los Angeles' Dan Haren (1-0) shut down the AL East champions. The Rays fell to 0-5.

Tampa Bay designated hitter Manny Ramirez was out of the starting lineup. He flied out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and will miss today's game at the Chicago White Sox while tending to a personal matter.

White Sox 10, Royals 7: Carlos Quentin had four hits, including a solo home run in the eighth and a two-run double in the ninth that capped a four-run uprising for Chicago against closer Joakim Soria in Kansas City.

White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday night and will miss at least five games.

Giants 8, Padres 4: Tim Lincecum struck out 13 and gave up just three hits and one run in seven innings for visiting San Francisco. Closer Brian Wilson, activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game, pitched the ninth in a non-save situation, allowing three runs on two infield singles and a walk.

Pirates 3, Cardinals 1: Kevin Correia (2-0) and two relievers combined to beat St. Louis and Neil Walker hit his second home run for visiting Pittsburgh.

Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 4: Chris Young drove in two runs, scored twice and made a pair of nice catches in centerfield for visiting Arizona.

Rockies 7, Dodgers 5: Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki homered for host Colorado.

Earlier in the day, the Rockies placed Ubaldo Jimenez on the 15-day DL with a cracked cuticle on his pitching thumb. -- AP
