White Sox's Jose Abreu wins AL Rookie of the Year

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was a unanimous winner of the AL Rookie of the Year award Monday, culminating a season in which the Cuban defector became one of baseball's top stars.
The 27-year-old led the major leagues with a .581 slugging percentage. He was sixth in the majors in batting (.317), tied for fourth in home runs (36) and fifth in RBIs (107).
Abreu received all 30 first-place votes for 150 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Angels righthander Matt Shoemaker (16-4, 3.04 ERA) was second with 40 points.
The Yankees' Dellin Betances (70 games, 1.40 ERA) was third with 27 points. He received seven second-place votes and six third-place votes. Teammate Masahiro Tanaka (13-5, 2.77 ERA) was fifth with 16 points, including three second-place votes and seven third-place votes. -- AP
