David Lennon wrote a good column exploring the pros and cons of trading Jose Reyes. I continue to think that Reyes will remain a Met through the season barring a ginormous offer from another club. All the more so if the Mets remain on the precipice of contention.
--Derek Jeter won't return Wednesday, the first day he's eligible to come off the disabled list, but it sounds like he isn't too far away. Even more encouraging for the Yankees, Bartolo Colon could be activated as soon as Saturday, for a start against the Mets at Citi Field. Not bad, since when Colon went down on June 11, many of us figured, "Big man, slow healer," and didn't count on seeing him for a while.
--Joe Torre says that Joe Girardi will handle moving Derek Jeter down in the lineup. During his time managing the Yankees, Torre sometimes dealt well with fading veterans; he dropped Paul O'Neill down in the lineup, for instance, soon after it became obvious that the Yankees had better options. Sometimes, though, not so much; Torre probably played Bernie Williams more than he should have towards the end of Williams' career.
--Props to Nick Swisher for waking up from his slump. Props to Kimberley A. Martin for getting a good interview with Swisher.
--Have a great day.
