Local colleges: Luisi, Benes spur Molloy over Dowling

Local colleges

Anthony Luisi and Brian Benes were each 3-for-5 with two RBIs as Molloy defeated Dowling, 9-2, in an East Coast Conference baseball game Friday.

Chuck Fontana (6-1) allowed one earned run and struck out seven in eight innings for Molloy (19-16, 12-4). Dowling is 14-17, 9-12.

VCU 13, Hofstra 5:John Kenny went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored for Hofstra (10-18, 3-4 CAA).

Houston Baptist 18, NYIT 3:Houston Baptist (14-16, 4-1 Great West Conference) slugged four homers and had 26 hits. Sebastian Grazziani hit a home run for NYIT (12-13, 4-1).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Hofstra 12, George Mason 9:Corrine Gandolfi had three goals and two assists and Liz Salco two scores and two assists for No. 16 Hofstra (9-3, 3-0 CAA). George Mason is 3-10, 0-3.

Nassau CC 13, Monroe CC 11:Ellen Kleeman had 13 saves and Shannon Asquino four goals and three assists for Nassau CC (9-3).
